The Program for Today

We're making donuts today. I love donuts. Especially when they're hot and fresh and made from scratch. We only do this on special occasions as the process takes so much time. But Abby saw pictures from Christmas of our donuts and she wanted some so I said I'd make them.
That's the good part of today. The bad part is that Handsome Face is on his third day of fever, Cute Girl slept horribly and wet the bed because now she's coughing and started feeling awful (she wouldn't stop shivering after I cleaned her up and put her back in bed), I'm coughing, and the Rocket Scientist has a bum shoulder again and can't do anything. Oh, what a day.

Why I Love Him

My cute little chubbley-munch is sick today. Wicked cough and high temperature. But he's a trooper. Aside from not sleeping well and feeling like he's on fire, you'd never know he was sick. He just keeps playing. And what I love most of all is the fact that all day long I've heard nothing but a long string of "ank-yoo"s everytime I gave him anything. He's just too sweet.

Quiet

I'm sitting at the computer going through my daily blog roll. I'm sleepy from eating two stuffed zucchinis. Cute Girl is at the post office with her aunt. Handsome Face is asleep in bed. The house is quiet. This is nice.

Pertaining to things Spiritual

These stories are all old. I'm a lazy blogger.
Cute Girl has been in Sunbeams for two months now. Luckily, we had no problem with transitioning her from Nursery. But even though she didn't cry or throw tantrums, she also didn't participate. She just sat there on the front row, turned around holding onto the back of her chair, watching all the other kids. But she was there and quiet so whatever.
A few weeks ago I overheard her playing at home and singing the new song we've been learning for our Primary Program. I had no idea she knew the words as she gave no sign of it in class. So we started practicing the new songs during Family Home Evening with loudness contests between Cute Girl and the Rocket Scientist. Cute Girl always won. Along with practicing we started harassing her about singing in Primary too.
So last week, out of the blue, she started singing. She was the only little Sunbeam in her class (we have four) singing, keeping time by pounding her fist in her hand, and mimicking the hand motions of the chorister. It was so cute!
But to top it all off it was Ward Conference and the Stake President was visiting Primary. When he got up to speak he asked Cute Girl's name and her age and went on and on about the three year old who knew all the words to the song and about how important it is to learn through music. And after church several people told me that he went into Relief Society and raved about her there too. She certainly picked the right day to come out of her shell.
And the next day we had Family Home Evening and learned about Jesus Christ being baptized. Here is her interpretation of events. Notice that she even drew their feet in the water, John holding Jesus by the arm, and that Y thing on the right is the Holy Ghost bird.

Seriously, what a day

Oh, the stories we have today. Cute Girl and Handsome Face were playing with their friend, Jaryn, today while I scrapbooked with my friends. Rachel and I thought it was awfully quiet upstairs, but we decided to pretend like everything was fine so that we could continue scrapbooking. At the end of our "playdate," Rachel came downstairs from where she was retrieving Jaryn and told me that I was going to kill three little kids. She presented Handsome Face to me and I gasped when I saw his face. I asked what it was and she told me it was make-up. All three kids were plastered with red lipstick. And upon further investigation we found Vaseline, chapstick, lotion, massage oil, coconut oil, and who knows what else. At bedtime the kids still smelled like they live in Bath and Body Works.
In the clean up that followed this lovely escapade, both of Handsome Face's blankies got put in the wash. When I tried to put him down for his nap he was really confused and wanted his blanket. He always has his blanket at bedtime and he likes to suck on the corner and rub the trim with his fingers. I put him down with just his cover up blankets but he started crying - not typical behavior for the boy who normally giggles at naptime. Out of pity, I dug out an old Cute Girl blanket with satin trim like his. He took it and stared at it while rubbing the edge. Then he took the corner and touched it to his tongue and immediately pulled it back out. After staring at it for another second he thrust it back up at me and yelled "NO!" It was so funny, I can't even do it justice. He then cried and threw everything out of his bed for the next hour. After drying a single blanket for just ten minutes I rushed it up to him. He went to sleep after that.

Sledding in the Desert

We had a great time on Valentine's Day as we headed for some distant mountains in search of snow. It took a little over two hours to get there and I was worried because the south face we were driving up was completely brown and covered in cactus. But once we reached the top and started descending we found snow in abundance (or what the desert calls abundance).

We only stayed a little over an hour as sledding with tiny children is a LOT of work and Handsome Face didn't actually like the sledding part so much. But as this was the only way the kids would ever see snow here, it was worth the four hours worth of driving. Maybe only once a year though.

He really didn't like sledding.

But he did like eating the snow.

This is where Handsome Face had lunch. All the college girls passing by thought he was the most adorable thing ever.

Hey Look! I'm blogging!

Well, I already established that I'm boring in the last post, but to top it all off my sister came into town unexpectedly and I haven't done a thing for a week. I love having company!

We haven't really done anything out of the ordinary just because Abby's here - she just tags along with whatever I'm doing. But since we have her car I have been able to do lots of shopping and errands that I wouldn't have done otherwise and that has lowered my stress levels considerably.

The kids love having her here, especially Cute Girl, with whom she shares a room. She is constantly yelling through the house, asking where Abby is because she MUST know her whereabouts at all times. Abby must play and read and craft with her all day long. I think Abby's getting a little tired!

It's Official

I have nothing to blog about. I'm officially boring. So once again I'm posting old pictures. Here the kids are finger painting a week ago. Handsome Face wasn't really all that into it, but he did manage to paint his cheeks and his sister immediately followed suit.

Self-sufficient

This is what my child does for her and her brother's snack when Mom is away and Dad is busy. (Those are plates full of raisins and peanuts if you can't tell.)
