Brown Paper Packages

We have the best aunts and uncles. Before school started, Cute Girl received a package from Uncle John and Aunt Becky. It was filled with back-to-school goodies and fun. I thought I would get a cute picture of all the treasure but it all looked like this before I could even get out the camera. We've had a lot of fun playing with it all. Thanks guys!

Sleeping like a baby

A week ago the Rocket Scientist had Friday off so we spent the morning at the pool with neighborhood friends. We ate lunch there and then came home for baths and naps. Cute Girl doesn't nap anymore but she's usually pretty good to play and let everyone else sleep. We didn't wake up until 4 o'clock and the house was pretty quiet, which made me nervous. But when we went downstairs we found this:
She had fallen asleep in the middle of coloring and the colored pencil was still in her hand. I guess all the quiet and the swimming added up to naptime for her too.

Kindergarten

Today was the first day of school and we all survived! The hardest part for me was just figuring out the drop off/pick up craziness in the parking lot. Cute Girl likes her teacher and I think she liked school. It's hard to tell because she wouldn't really tell me anything. When I asked her the best part she answered "Coming home." Then she ate the rice krispie treat from her lunch box on the ride home and I gave up on asking any more questions. When Grandma called to see how it went she offered up a little more and at dinner I figured out that she never once asked to go to the bathroom. That explained why she was jumping all over the place when we got home.

Handsome Face and I had a fine day at home. I can't figure out what to do with myself though. Only having one of them at home is weird. We read lots of books, played memory and trains, and worked in his colors workbook. It was nice not to hear any fights though and I was actually alone during nap time. How novel!

Miscellanii

(Because every time I sit down to blog I always seem to have something better to do, i.e. my kitchen's been clean this month.)

Apparently Christmas came early this year because my kids watched Rudolph, Charlie Brown, and Mr. Krueger this week. Cute Girl's even got her Christmas list.
School starts on Tuesday for us with seminary starting the following week. I'm not ready for summer to be over but that's the way it goes.
It's been raining a lot the past few days. Our backyard has been converted to a lake several times and the kids have decided that lightning and thunder are kind of fun.
We found out we're having a girl a couple of weeks ago. Cute Girl is very excited and has found many things in her room that we could give to the baby for Christmas.
Yesterday we went to Kitt Peak National Observatory. It was a lot of fun. The Rocket Scientist really enjoyed the solar telescope and the kids liked the ladybugs, rocks, and driving up the mountain in a cloud. One lady on our tour complimented how well-behaved my children were. They really were good.
We've gone to the pool all week long and almost none of our friends ever showed up. Really sad. But Cute Girl has become quite a fish and has figured out how to dive for things (when she can actually get her scrawny little bum over her head so she'll sink). And on Friday Dad came too and that was a blast. The kids have much more fun when he's around.
I taught in Young Women today on the creation and the fall. I'm not a very good teacher and so I was very pleased when the lesson went well. I even got participation and it wasn't ALL from the other leaders.
