Your suggestions are appreciated

So where would you shop for furniture and bedding? I am having a hard time finding things that I like that are also not over a thousand dollars. Why is it that all of the inexpensive things are ugly? Here's a bed from Anthropologie and I really like it although this is the one I would die for (from Pottery Barn). Here's a similar one from Overstock.com but I'm not loving the x's. And I love this cool one from Etsy. But a canopy bed may overpower my space so I like this one too.
So, tell me. Where should I go to find a great bed and lovely bedding?

have you thought about building it yourself? If Neil is into that sort of thing, that might be a viable option. I've fallen in love with things in high-end stores and Neil's built them for me (he loves using CAD to design them!) Anyway, just a thought.

I second the build-it-yourself comment.

You also might find a local small-timer store--they typically depend on repeat business and offer mid-quality furniture at a good price (we used dfwfurnituredirect which we found through craigslist, had same stuff as RAC and Rooms-To-Go but at 40% the price, but I digress).

After that, walmart.com and Ikea are decent sites. While we're not overly impressed with the self-assemble furniture, it is functional and sometimes stylish.

I'm a big fan of the Pottery Barn canopy bed. I think your room is big enough that a canopy bed would look great.

I have no solutions for the "great bedding at a great price" dilemma. The bedding that I think looks truly fabulous is always expensive. When I wait for it to go on sale, I miss out altogether. That would explain why I have such tacky furniture/bedding at my house. I need someone from HGTV to come in and take over for me (Design on a Dime, Trading Spaces, something like that...)

Hey- Here's an option from Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S69871265 It's a four post canopy for $299. It's white but you could always spray paint it. That's the best suggestion I have if you want it now and you don't want to spend a lot of money. Personally though, I would just save up and buy the Pottery Barn one. Unless you find something you like as much or almost as much, every time you see your bed you'll think "Oh this is nice, but oh that Pottery Barn one..." My philosophy is that money spent on something you won't LOVE is money wasted. I think it's better to spend a little more money on something you are going to be in love with every day rather than spend any money on something that makes you go "ehhh". If you can't get the Pottery Barn bed now, but you want a room refresh, get/make a new duvet cover. It will give you that new bedroom makeover feeling at a smaller price point and will tid you over as you save/wait for the thing you really want. (Btw- that Pottery Barn bed is the bed I've been dreaming of in my head but didn't know existed. I'm so excited to have found it especially because Warren said we could finally get a new bed sometime this year. So thank you!)

I'm not much help at all. We got our fabulous black wrought iron bed from a mattress sale (it was on the floor and they were trying to get rid of it), so we got it for under $200 *shrug*. I guess it depends on how important to you. Everyone has their dream furniture that they know they won't ever get...but then again, some things are definitely worth saving up for. It really depends on how much your bed is worth to you.

The etsy one is my favorite, by the way.

Wow! You've found some cool beds. I have nothing to offer as far as advice but I can see why you love the Pottery Barn one. But the Etsy one is awesome!! And a great price...
