Frustrated

I think one of the most frustrating things about being a mother is when you're having a horrible day and it is mostly (if not all) your fault. A close second to this is when you're having a hellish day and you're doing everything right. Because seriously, what on earth are you supposed to change to make the day better?!
We were greeted this morning with some sunshiny faces. My children were dressed and Cute Girl had done her chores and I actually made breakfast. Then Handsome Face played with some play dough while I cleaned up the kitchen.

Cute Girl helped with the dishes.
After playing kitchen in the pretend kitchen upstairs (so boring by the way), I left my children to their activities in order to start on my to-do list. Things quickly spiraled downhill. After two hours of tantrums and fights and time-outs we finally had lunch and everyone calmed down. Oh I hated those few hours.
And now we're here. Cute Girl practiced some sewing,
while I finished this banner. It was supposed to be a project that Cute Girl and I could make together for the Fourth but then my children took to their sickbeds for a week. She did help man the sewing machine and trimmed some edges.

He turned 3!

We celebrated Handsome Face's birthday over the weekend. We had such a good time. We started out with breakfast. I made eggs and toast but I knew he'd really only want the bacon and some cereal. Sure enough, that's what he ate. Then we headed for the pool. It was a great day for being in the water.Cute Girl with her life jacket, despite knowing how to swim. She drives me crazy sometimes.

Apple break

After naps we headed to town for a birthday surprise. We met Dad at the theater and saw Toy Story 3! When we came home it was time for dinner and birthday celebrations. Lucky for us the power went out right before we were ready to start. It made the evening a little interesting.

Handsome Face wanted a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cake so that's what he got. I made a yellow cake and decided to put chocolate on the other layer since that's MY favorite combination.
A dragon from Aunt Abby
the fire truck from Grandma and Grandpaand all of the loot from Mommy and Daddy We ate dinner by camp lantern. Handsome Face is the pickiest eater in the house so we decided to barbecue for his birthday. I knew he would eat hot dogs, chips, and strawberries. The big people also enjoyed broccoli salad.
Birthday festivities extended into the next day when Grandma and Grandpa Crapo's package arrived. I liked the pajamas the best. He liked the shooting airplane. Go figure.

Father's Day

We're back and playing catch-up again. Our Father's Day this year was an absolute disaster! I got home from Girls' Camp the day before. I was supposed to go and pick up the last present but instead I completely crashed! I spent all afternoon in bed.
Then next morning we were lounging in bed when all of a sudden I remembered it was Father's Day and we only had an hour to get everyone ready for Stake Conference. I jumped up to go make the Rocket Scientist's French toast but he insisted he didn't need it, that I would only get stressed out doing it, and that he would rather have me happy on his day. So I finally gave in and went to shower since I was the only one who needed to. When I came downstairs, the stinker was making his own Father's Day French toast! I tried really hard to get mad at him but how do you get mad when it's his day?
I don't even know what happened the rest of the day because I was still completely out of it. He did get to open one gift - Fablehaven Keys to the Demon Prison. The next Friday we went shopping and he finally got his new wheelbarrow. And for our anniversary at the end of the month I finally made the fortune cookies that were supposed to be from the kids on Father's Day. Next year I'll make sure I don't go to Girls' Camp the week before.
