Why I have the best wife in the world

I think it's only fair, after being singled out two posts previous as being "the best husband in the world," to respond that it takes more than an afternoon of good behavior and a good dinner for that title to stick. If you really want to be the best in the world, you've got to be consistent. Try taking care of the kids and making dinner every day! There's some "best in the world" action for you.

And, as if every day wasn't enough, I slept in on Father's Day like a lazy bum and missed all the fun.

This fun, that is. Wanna lose some weight? Try doing household chores with 30lb ankle weights.

And yet my breakfast, when I finally got out of bed to enjoy it, was as delicious as it was lovely. (My plate is the one the monkey in the tie is sitting on)

Maybe I should sleep in more often, because it's now being rewarded with presents.

If you look at the picture of the grill on the box upside down, it looks like a duckbill platypus. Yeah, I couldn't see it either.

The kids had no idea that you could get a charcoal grill this big. (Neither did I, for that matter. This is another reason my wife is the greatest in the world. I like charcoal and wood grills better than gas. I like to think the foods taste better that way, but I also feel more manly if I have to make my own fire. My wife understands this basic primate desire of mine and gets me the grill that will make it take longer for her food to be ready. I love you too, honey)

To top it all off, my wonderful wife made ice cream for dessert. We all liked it, but none so much as this guy. You know you love a food when you aren't ashamed to wear it.
So that's my case. A woman who will take care of my spawn every day and still treat me like a king on father's day truly has a heart of gold. And seeing as this house isn't big enough for two "Best in the world"s, you get the crown. I'll take the title of grill boy.

Why I have the best husband in the world

I napped and read all afternoon yesterday while my husband made me this. From scratch alfredo sauce with sauteed mushrooms and shrimp, homemade French bread, and steamed broccoli. And then he cleaned the kitchen.

She really likes fettucine.

The Original Scrap Box is sponsoring a giveaway on Homemade by Jill. I really want that desktop. Cute Girl would have a ball putting all her art supplies in it. And maybe my kitchen table wouldn't be covered in glue anymore. Just a thought.

Today's Fun Moments

While I was running there was a 50-foot stretch of road that was riddled with gumdrops. I felt like I was in Hansel and Gretel.

When I came home, Handsome Face heard the front door open and he came running down the stairs yelling, "Mommy! Mommy!" When he found me in the kitchen, he stopped short and said, "Cock-ker bye-bye" (cockroach bye-bye). Such an important announcement for first thing in the morning.

Handsome Face and I were searching the pantry for what he wanted to eat next when Cute Girl yells from the table, "Goodness! we have a lot of cereal!" (There are close to 15 boxes. We just stocked up.)

Who Doesn't Love this Bonnet?

So, I don't actually know Danielle, but I found that she is giving away a pattern for this adorable baby bonnet. The lovely Rachael leaked the news. So go sign yourself up. And if I don't win, I may just have to buy it because I need a new baby shower present. I'm all burned out on baby booties.

This is how my kids eat cherries.

Our tiny family reunion

My little family traveled to Utah and back this weekend. It was a short trip but we got to see lots of family. On the LOOOONNGG drive back I realized that I hadn't taken a single picture. I could have kicked myself. But I was tired the whole time so I can't really blame myself for not thinking about it. But I really wish we had a picture of the kids with their two new cousins.
Friday afternoon the kids went with their uncles, dad, and grandparents to the dinosaur museum at BYU. At least I sent the camera this time. They had a lot of fun. It was a great place to go as Handsome Face has just become fascinated with dinosaurs.

With Uncle John, a particular favorite among my small crowd. Our hotel room adjoined to Grandma and Grandpa's. John and Joseph were staying there too. So every morning the kids woke up wanting two things. Breakfast and John.

Also on our trip we ate too much food at two family barbeques, the Rocket Scientist went hiking with his dad and brothers, Grandma Crapo treated the kids and me and we went and saw Up, we went to the blessings of our new nephews, Dallin and Lucas, we took family portraits, and saw a few old friends. We were really sad that we couldn't go play games with our friends, the Hansons, and the Morales were out of town (shame on you!). Next time I'm going to have to plan our time better.

Now we're back home, trying to recover sleep, make our way through the mountain of laundry, and wondering what we're going to do without John, Bret, Joseph, and Grandpa to entertain us.

Well, I can already tell what life is going to be like married to a seminary teacher. Early morning training means home from work late means I took care of the kids myself, the kids went to bed without seeing Dad once today, and his dinner is cold. And it was a good dinner too! Indiana-style fried pork chops, golden baked potatos, buttered brocoli, and salad. Although, to be completely honest, I never actually finished the salad because I was doing everything myself and taking care of crying kids. There's just a bowl of lettuce sitting on the counter.

Life is Crazy

I feel like all we do is go, go, go. And we don't even have anything to do! And in the process of doing all of this nothing, we don't get anything done! Crazy how that happens, isn't it?
Today is supposed to be a good, quiet, productive day. And so far it has been lovely. But it's now three o'clock and the house is still a mess and none of our to-do list has been checked off.
First the kids and I slept in until 6:20 and then had breakfast. The Rocket Scientist was long gone to Seminary training. (Yes, he's been called as a Seminary teacher. No, I'm not very happy about it but I am trying to be humble.) Then we got ready and we were at the pool by 8:00. We met a lovely new family in the neighborhood and played with all our old friends. It was nice to be out in the sunshine (and later the shade) with our feet in the water, talking to good people, and seeing my children happy.
When we came home at eleven o'clock, my children got to do this: Then they played with water toys until the scrubbing came due. They really don't like the scrubbing part.
After lunch and a very wicked little boy tantrum we played computer games, read books, and then went down for naps. Well, Handsome Face is still napping, I napped shortly, and Cute Girl eventually abandoned my bed and went to her toy room. It may be that my laying down with her trick is finally wearing off and she's really going to give up the afternoon nap. Oh, that will be a sad day.
Now we need to finish all the laundry, pack for our trip to Utah, clean the bedrooms, and wash the dishes for there are no clean bowls or spoons. Oh, and I guess some of us may want to eat tonight so I'd better make dinner too. How much of that can I do in two hours?
